Why Sutherland Hospital?

Sutherland Hospital is a teaching hospital located in the suburb of Caringbah, 30 minutes from the Sydney CBD. Its Emergency Department is accredited for 12 months Advanced Emergency Medicine Training by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). Sutherland ED sees approximately 50,000 patients per year including approximately 25% paediatrics.
The Department offers a comprehensive training program with 4 hours of protected teaching each week. Non-vocational trainees also have access to the Hospital Skills Program. Sutherland ED provides preparation for ACEM primary and fellowship examinations, with an excellent track record of success, as well as support for other specialty training programs.

Opportunities for rotation for Sutherland ED trainees include:

  • ICU, Anaesthetics, Paediatrics and Aged Care at Sutherland Hospital.
  • St George Emergency Department – the network’s trauma centre.
  • Other anaesthetics & ED rotations within the Sydney area.
