Description

Welcome to the eLearning module Screening for smoking, alcohol and other substances.

This course for frontline health staff is intended to develop skills to ask clients standard screening questions for alcohol, smoking and other substances. It will ensure that clients at risk of withdrawal are identified and, where appropriate, clients will receive further review and/or brief intervention and that there is adequate reporting and communicating of results and actions.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Outcomes

The module will enable staff to:

  • Ask screening questions for smoking, alcohol and other substances;
  • Engage patients in initial brief interventions and further assessments if required;
  • Work with team members regarding assessments and reviews;
  • Document and communicate the results of screening and brief interventions to support continuity of care.

Audience

This course is applicable for all frontline staff and may qualify for up to 0.4 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
