Emergency Department - Pulmonary Embolism

Welcome to the ED - Pulmonary Embolism learning module.

This course focuses on the diagnosis and symptoms of Pulmonary Embolism. Diagnostic tools such as Wells Criteria, PERC and D-dimer are covered with  a range of case studies to illustrate their use. The interpretation of CTPAs is covered using images to help with identification and diagnosis. A ten question quiz follows the learning module. The quiz is scored and answers are provided when you review the quiz. You can repeat this learning module as many times as you want.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

On completion of this module the learner will:

  • Learn to assess the pre-test probablity of a Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
  • Understand the value of a D-dimer. Know when to order and how to apply a CTPA
  • Have a sensible approach to PE in pregnancy
  • Know how to look for a PE on a CTPA.

Audience

This module is aimed at PGY1 - PGY4 Emergency Department Doctors and may qualify for up to 1.0 hr Continuous Professional Development.
