Effective End of Life Conversations (Workshop)

Description

A face to face advance skills workshop targeted towards NSW Health staff who conduct end of life conversations. The workshop is facilitated by the Local Health District or Specialty Network using the Facilitators Guide and Participant Manual.

Objectives

At the completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • identify the benefits and opportunities for timely initiation of end of life conversations with the patient, family, carers and the health system
  • recognise barriers, challenges and cultural aspects of initiating conversations about deteriorating prognosis and end of life issues
  • apply the relevant ethical, legal and professional frameworks that guide work in the area
  • demonstrate knowledge, skills and confidence in having these conversations with patients, families and carers in a range of clinical scenarios.

Audience

This course is applicable for all NSW Health Clinical Staff and may qualify for up to 4.0 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
