History

HETI was established in April 2012 as a Statutory Health Corporation following a Ministerial Review of Future Governance for NSW Health.

We are the Registered Training Organisation for NSW Health. Our remit is the coordination and management of education and training activities for the NSW public health system, and our scope of work includes the development and delivery of programs and courses in clinical and non-clinical areas such as patient care, leadership and management development, undergraduate courses and vocational training.

At the time of establishment, we brought together the work of predecessor organisations: the Clinical Education and Training Institute (CETI), NSW Institute of Medical Education and Training (IMET) and NSW Institute of Rural Clinical Services and Teaching (IRCST).

In January 2017, we expanded further when the NSW Institute of Psychiatry (NSWIOP) become part of our mental health portfolio. In preparation of this transition, in October 2016, we were formally accredited as a Higher Education Provider by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), and we are now proud to deliver two postgraduate courses in mental health.
