Introduction to cardiac monitoring

Description

Welcome to the eLearning module Introduction to Cardiac Monitoring.

This module describes some key responsibilities of clinicians new to caring for cardiac monitored patients.  It is designed to support unit based orientation and will take about 30 minutes to complete.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

At the completion of this module, the learner will be able to work in a team based setting to:

  • Correctly place a person onto a cardiac monitor.
  • Relate the choice of monitoring lead and alarm parameters to the clinical situation.
  • Outline actions to be taken when concerned about the cardiac rhythm or when an alarm sounds.
  • Incorporate cardiac monitoring care issues the patient's plan of care.

Audience

The course is applicable for clinicians who are new to caring for patients requiring cardiac monitoring and may qualify for up to 0.5 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
