Description

Welcome to the eLearning module Decontamination of Reusable Medical Devices.

This module looks at the basic multi steps underlying the effective reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMDs) to ensure they are safe for use.
The information in this eLearning module is introductory only and is relevant for all staff working in Health Care Organisations (HCOs) who undertake the reprocessing of RMDs.
This is an introductory module only and you may be required to complete a comprehensive site induction process at your workplace which is inclusive of competency based assessment.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

On completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify and apply Spaulding Classification System in the reprocessing of RMDs in your workplace
  • Identify the basic steps for the correct, effective and safe reprocessing of RMDs
  • Recognise own need for ongoing professional education, including competency assessment, compliant with LHD requirements and Industry Standards.

Audience

This course is applicable for all staff who decontaminate reusable medical devices and may qualify for up to 0.4 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
