Welcome to eLearning module Caring for Older Persons.

This module is to assist clinicians to prepare for a change in patient demographics .  We can expect to treat more older people at our health services in the future due to our ageing population.  The content touches on age discrimination,function, frailty, taking time to adequately access and listen to patients and family concerns. The advantages of using Multidisciplinary resources to help patients to get well and to go on to live a life they love. There are three videos with activities for participants to test themselves during the learning.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

On completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Challenge common misconceptions about ageing to ensure holistic and person centred care.
  • Identify health issues accurately in older persons without mistakenly attributing them to their age.
  • Identify ways to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide integrated care for the older person.
  • Utilise appropriate resources that aim to increase older person's  confidence in their abilities and independence.

Audience

This course is applicable for all health practitioners caring for older people in health settings and may qualify for up to 0.5 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
