Clinician Disclosure

Welcome to the eLearning module Fundamentals of Clinician Disclosure.

These six lessons are designed to develop the skills and understanding required by clinicians to perform Clinician Disclosure with patients or family members immediately following a patient safety incident.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

After completing the module of six lessons you will be:

  • familiar with NSW Health's open disclosure processes and the links between incident management and open dislcosure;
  • understand clinician disclosure from the perspective of clinicians and patients and families;
  • be able to recognise and apply the key elements in apologising with empathy and confidence;
  • and utilise the STARS tool as an aid Clinician Disclosure discussions.

Audience

NSCHS Standard 1.16.2 requires that "The clinical workforce are trained in open disclosure processes'. This course may qualify for up to 2 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
