Welcome to the eLearning module Motivational Interviewing: Building Skills.

This module builds on skills presented in the "Introduction to Motivational Interviewing" module. It focusses on scenario-based examples of how to utilise Motivational Interviewing techniques to understand and assess a persons motivation to change.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

On completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • distinguish between the common stages of change: Precontemplation and Contemplation
  • identify strategies to work with people who are in Precontemplation and Contemplation stages of change
  • recognise change talk
  • gain an understanding of how to assess a clients motivation to change
  • recognise the skills required to assist clients to participate in the goal setting process.

Audience

This module is designed for Nursing & Midwifery, Medical, Allied Health, Clinical Support Staff and may qualify for up to 0.5 hrs of Continuous Professional Development.
