PHICS: Public Health Incident Control Systems

Welcome to the Public Health Incident Control Systems (PHICS) course.

This is developed for staff working to support public health emergency operations.

This course will examine how Incident Control Systems can be used in managing a public health emergency response.

Before undertaking this course, we highly recommend you complete the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) training, also known as ‘the Incident Control System’ or ‘ICS’.

At the end of this course you should be able to describe which Public Health roles comprise each ICS function. This will allow for an effective response within the ICS structure to a major incident with Public Health implications.

The quiz contains 10 questions with 2 attempts for each question. The pass mark is 80%. If you do not pass you can retake the quiz.

A certificate is issued on completion.

Objectives

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Recognise events for which activating an Incident Control System may be of assistance
  • List the functions of teams in a public health emergency response, including:
    • Planning
    • Public Information
    • Operations
    • Logistics
  • Detail your role if assigned to a team in a public health emergency response

Audience

This module is  for staff working to support public health emergency operations. and may qualify for up to 0.3 hr of Continuous Professional Development.
