Diploma of Nursing Rural Travel Scholarship Incentive

The Diploma of Nursing Rural Travel Support Incentive provides financial travel assistance for Diploma of Nursing students from a rural area (MM3-MM7).

About the scholarship

The Travel Support Incentive aims to increase opportunities for individuals to undertake a Diploma in Nursing by supporting the cost of travel to a recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that is 100km or greater from their residential address.

The applicant can apply for a travel incentive of $5,000 and use the funds for associated travel and accommodation costs related to Diploma of Nursing studies.

Scholarship priorities

These Travel Incentives are limited and competitive. While all eligible applications will be considered, the following applications will be given priority:

  1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People living in a rural area. The person must be:
    • Of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
    • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and
    • Be recognised and accepted by the Aboriginal community in which they live or work.
  2. Persons residing in rural town. Higher Modified Monash Model Scale of Rurality location: MM3 (low) – MM7 (high). Find Modified Monash Model (MMM) classifications on the Health Workforce Locator.
  3. Agreed outcome from review panel assessment of application.
  4. Demonstrated intention to remain in the rural NSW Health workforce.
  5. Employed in areas of workforce need.

Who is eligible?

Diploma of Nursing Travel Support Incentive Applicants must:

  1. Live or plan to live in a location classified as Modified Monash Model 3 or above (MM3-MM7) and live more than 100km from the Registered Training Organisation offering the Diploma of Nursing.
  2. Be enrolled in a Diploma of Nursing course accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).
  3. Not have previously received the Diploma of Nursing Rural Travel Support Incentive.
  4. Be able to provide evidence of enrolment in an accredited Diploma of Nursing course.
  5. Successful recipients must not have accepted a NSW Health scholarship or subsidy within the last two years.
