Supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Doctors

HETI CPD Home

The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is accredited by the Australian Medical Council and approved by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Home for doctors.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the MBA have developed revised CPD requirements that began on 1 January 2023 for doctors. As part of those requirements, doctors are required to be registered with a CPD Home that administers their completion of, and compliance with, CPD requirements from 1 January 2024. (See Ahpra CPD website)

The HETI CPD Home is for NSW-based doctors not affiliated with a specialty college, with a focus on doctors in their early years of practice (principally NSW Health staff), from PGY3 and onwards. The HETI CPD Home fulfills all requirements for accreditation with the Australian Medical Council (AMC), providing members with individually tailored support and guidance in the creation of a professional development plan (PDP), and to plan, meet and log the requisite CPD activities.

Annual Registration Fee $550

What is CAPE?

CAPE domains are program level requirements (PLRs) are mandatory annual components of CPD to maintain medical registration. Activities must address each of the four domains, but there is no minimum hourly requirement. These PLRs are mapped to the Good Medical Practice: a code of conduct for Doctors in Australia.

PLRs focus on core professional capabilities, including culturally safe practice and addressing systemic health inequities. Members already engage in CPD activities that meet various PLR requirements.

HETI CPD home has mapped My Health Learning eLearning modules for each domain. Click on each domain for more information.

My Health Learning Resources

infographic cpd home quick start overviewIn each calendar year, medical practitioners PGY3+ working in NSW must meet the requirements of the Boards CPD registration standard.

As an agency of NSW Health, HETI recognises the mandatory training requirements of NSW Health employees. Some courses are required annually, others only once. You can claim mandatory training as part of your CPD for the year as long as the training was conducted within the current CPD year.

A mapped list of NSW mandatory training modules is available to members in Appendix One of the HETI CPD Handbook.

  • Reflect and self-evaluate your CPD activity at the end of the year as you prepare your professional development plan for the next year.
  • CPD activity can be logged for preparing, reviewing and reflecting on your Professional Development Plan (up to a maximum of 5 hours).
  • Retain records of your annual CPD activity for potential audit by your CPD home and/or the Board for three years after the end of each one-year cycle.

infographic cpd home pdp guideIt is mandatory to prepare, review and reflect on an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP).

Your PDP should be prepared in the first 3 months of the calendar year. This is the expectation of the Medical Board of Australia.

The PDP process aims to support doctors in developing a framework to guide your education and training, and meet your professional development goals.

The HETI CPD Home inbuilt PDP template assists members in developing a CPD plan.

Further resources are available for members to support the development of your PDP.

The HETI CPD Home team is available to support you to develop your PDP annually.
