Wellbeing Nursing education and training

The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) have partnered with the Health Social Policy Branch in the Ministry of Health and NSW Department of Education to develop education and training for Wellbeing Nurses in NSW Health.

Wellbeing Nurses provide health and wellbeing care to school students, families and school communities. The NSW Health Wellbeing Nurse Capability Framework 2024-2029 and Wellbeing Nurse Learning Navigator have been designed to support the professional development of nurses working towards or within the NSW Health Wellbeing and Health In-reach Nurse (WHIN) Coordinator Program.

Wellbeing Nurse Capability Framework

The NSW Health Wellbeing Nurse Capability Framework 2024-2029 (the Framework) has been developed for the NSW Health Wellbeing Nursing workforce.

Developed with expert Wellbeing Nurses across NSW Health Local Health Districts, the Framework serves as a valuable resource for professional development plans, workforce development and service planning, as well as addressing targeted Wellbeing Nursing education and training needs.

Wellbeing Nurse Learning Navigator

The Wellbeing Nurse Learning Navigator is designed to support the professional development needs of Wellbeing Nurses across NSW. It offers:

NSW Health WHIN Coordinator Program

The NSW Health WHIN Coordinator Program is a partnership between NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education. The program establishes a Wellbeing Nurse in selected NSW public primary and secondary schools to identify the health and social concerns for students and their families to accessible and timely health care. As of November 2023, there are currently 94 wellbeing nurses working across more than 380 NSW public schools (NSW Health, 2023).
