NSW Rural Generalist Medical Training Program, 2019

Positions now available

Applications are open for the NSW Rural Generalist Medical Training Program – 2019 Advanced Skills Training year.

This state-wide Program, managed by the Health Education and Training Institute, provides a supported training pathway for junior medical officers wishing to pursue a career as a rural general practitioner with advanced and/or procedural skills.

The benefits and rewards of the Program include exposure to a wide, varied and interesting range of clinical practice whilst becoming part of a rural community – and ultimately supports the delivery of specialist services to rural communities.

More than 50 positions are available for the 2019 clinical year and applications are open for junior doctors currently PGY2 and above. Specialities include:

  • Anaesthetics – positions available in the Hunter New England, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Western NSW Local Health Districts
  • Emergency Medicine – positions available in the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW and Western NSW Local Health Districts
  • Emergency Medicine / Obstetrics – positions available in Mid North Coast, Murrumbidgee and Northern NSW Local Health Districts
  • Mental Health – positions available in the Mid North Coast, Northern NSW and Western NSW Local Health Districts
  • Obstetrics – positions available in the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Western NSW Local Health Districts
  • Paediatrics – positions available in the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast, Northern NSW and Western NSW Local Health Districts
  • Palliative Care – positions available in the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health Districts

Training is provided within accredited regional NSW Health service facilities and integrated as part of community general practice training in a rural area.

Applicants must be accepted into general practice training by the commencement of the Advanced Skills Training Year, February 2019.

Successful completion of the advanced skills training year will result in a qualification supporting credentialing in that discipline, within NSW Health and as a Rural Generalist/Rural General Practitioner.
