HETI Higher Education an Institute of Higher Education Under TEQSA New Reform

Publish date:
Press Release

The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI Higher Education) confirm Institute of Higher Education as the new category they fall under in the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency’s (TEQSA) reform of Provider Category Standards. The change in category will take effect on 1st July 2021.

In February 2021, the Australian Parliament passed the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Provider Category Standards and Other  Measures) Bill 2020.

The Bill gives effect to the Australian Government’s decision to implement all 10 recommendations arising from the Provider Category Standards review conducted in 2019.

These important changes simplify and enhance the categorisation of higher education providers in Australia, ensuring that the Provider Category Standards remain fit for purpose in Australia’s evolving higher education landscape.

As part of these changes the six current provider categories will be replaced by four and HETI Higher Education welcomes the new category that covers its higher education provider status as an Institute of Higher Education.

HETI Higher Education, as part of HETI, provides education and training to the NSW Health system’s more than 110,000 clinical and non-clinical staff to achieve excellence in health care within NSW. Developing workforce capability is one of HETI Higher Education’s key functions as a registered Higher Education Provider for both NSW Health and beyond to other sectors and jurisdictions.

Courses are designed to draw on a recovery-oriented approach to mental health care. In practice, this means HETI Higher Education supports genuine collaboration with individuals on their recovery journey by seeking to maximise hope, strength, resilience, and self-determination. The learning units are oriented to supporting skill development in the workplace for those with clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

The next award course intake is August 2021. Those wanting to apply for entry to Applied Mental Health Studies are encouraged to do so via the website application page here.

There is a further opportunity for learners to do a full-time Graduate Certificate Applied Mental Health Studies at a heavily subsidised price in Semester 2, 2021 only, see: https://heti.edu.au/news/news/new-full-time-applied-mental-health-studies-course-for-2021
