Congratulations Shibu John (Mid North Coast Local Health District), a graduate of the 2015 cohort of HETI’s Rural Research Capacity Building Program, who recently had his research on decision-making capacity assessments published in the Australian Journal of Rural Health. This publication extends Shibu’s work in this area which includes collaborative development of models of care for confused older persons in hospital. Access the abstract here or the full publication via CIAP.

"Health clinicians are challenged to decide when and how to conduct decision making capacity assessment and guardianship applications for confused older patients. The locally introduced capacity testing procedure can address these challenges and help clinicians achieve better patient outcomes." - Shibu John, Social Worker, Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
