Enhancing Facilitation: Updates to HETI’s Facilitation Development Pathway
New look, new structure: refreshed Facilitation Development Pathway launching in 2026.
HETI has refreshed the Facilitation Development Pathway to ensure it remains contemporary, evidence-informed, and aligned with NSW Health priorities and international best practice. The updated Pathway continues to build facilitation capability across the system, supporting collaboration, reflection, and meaningful engagement in diverse learning and workplace contexts.
What’s Changing
Updated Facilitation Standards
The NSW Health Facilitation Standards have been revised to align more closely with key NSW Health frameworks and global facilitation benchmarks. They continue to provide a strong foundation for consistent, high-quality facilitation practice across NSW Health.

Clearer Program Pathways
The programs have new names that reflect their purpose and progression:
- Facilitation Essentials (formerly FDP Core / Green Band)
- Facilitation for Education (formerly Yellow Band)
- Facilitation for Complexity (formerly Blue Band)
These titles make it easier for participants to choose the program that best suits their development needs.
New Delivery Model
From 2026, Facilitation Essentials will adopt a blended model combining five self-paced online modules with a six-hour virtual workshop. This approach supports flexible, self-directed learning and increases access for staff across NSW Health.
About the Pathway
Facilitation is about guiding groups to think together, navigate challenges, and take shared action. HETI’s Facilitation Development Pathway helps staff build the communication, collaboration, and relational skills needed to do this well.
Aligned with the NSW Health Facilitation Standards and the NSW Health Culture and Staff Experience Framework, the Pathway provides a clear, structured approach to developing facilitation capability across all levels.
