Conversations about palliative and end of life care occur across all areas of the health system. Many clinicians report feeling unsure about how to begin or respond to these discussions, particularly when Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) is raised. This webinar is designed to support NSW Health staff to approach these situations with confidence, clarity and within their professional scope.

This session will use a case-based scenario to explore practical communication strategies for discussing end of life care choices. Presenters will guide attendees through responding when VAD is mentioned, addressing common misconceptions and identifying appropriate referral pathways.

The webinar will also outline how VAD and palliative care can work in parallel to support person centred, holistic care. The discussion will highlight the importance of clear communication, coordinated care and a consistent understanding of roles and responsibilities across settings.

By the end of this session, attendees will have a clearer understanding of how to support people and families during complex end of life conversations, and how to apply these skills in everyday practice.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This will be of interest to all Healthcare practitioners and providers, as quality end of life care is everyone’s business.
