NSW Prevocational Training Awards
The Geoff Marel Award
In 1999 the Postgraduate Medical Council sought to recognise the significant work of the late Associate Professor Geoff Marel through an annual award. This prestigious award has been continued by HETI in memory of Associate Professor Geoff Marel. This award recognises the work of a DPET, Term Supervisor or Clinical Educator who has made substantial contributions to the education and support of prevocational trainees in their PGY1 and/or PGY2 years.
Nominations for the Geoff Marel Award can be made by prevocational trainees in their PGY1 or PGY2 year only.
The winner of The Geoff Marel Award will be the NSW nominee for the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils (CPMEC) Australia & New Zealand ‘Clinical Educator of the Year’ award.
The Judy Muller Award
The Judy Muller Award recognises the work of a JMO Manager, Education Support Officer or an Administrative Officer who has made a substantial contribution to the education and support of prevocational trainees in their PGY1 or PGY2 years. This award is in recognition of the longstanding contribution for the education and support of prevocational trainees by the late Ms Judy Muller.
Nominations for the Judy Muller Award can be made by prevocational trainees in their PGY1 or PGY2 year only.
The JMO of the Year Award
This award recognises the work of a JMO who has made substantial contributions to the education and support of prevocational trainees.
Nominations for the JMO of the Year Award can be made by any prevocational stakeholder.
The winner of the JMO of the Year Award will be the NSW nominee for the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils (CPMEC) Australia & New Zealand ‘Junior Doctor of the Year’ award.

Geoff Marel Award
The 2023 Geoff Marel Award is presented to Dr Jessica Green, Director of Prevocational Education and Training and an Emergency Physician at St Vincent’s Hospital. Dr Green has been recognised for her commitment and passion for implementing education programs and supporting the education, training, and welfare of junior doctors.

Judy Muller Award
The 2023 Judy Muller Award is presented to Ms Alicia Butchers, JMO Manager at Coffs Harbour Health Campus. Ms Butchers is recognised for her commitment to the wellbeing and education of JMOs. She advocates for teaching time and has re-invigorated the JMO training program to include more relevant and improved quality teaching sessions.

JMO of the Year Award
The 2023 JMO of the Year Award is presented to Dr Alec Pham, a Resident Medical Officer at Concord Hospital. Dr Pham is recognised for his substantial contributions to the education, support and mentoring of prevocational trainees in Concord Hospital. Dr Pham holds the position of RMOA Resident Medical Officer Representative, 2023 as well as being the RMOA JMO wellbeing representative and is the resident representative of the Complex Care Committee 2023.
