Newborn Basic Life Support Assessment Tool


Welcome to Newborn Basic Life Support Assessment Tool.

Under NHQHS Standard 9 'Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration in Acute Health Care', all clinicians must be capable of implementing basic life support measures while awaiting emergency assistance (Action 9.6.1). This includes casual staff, those from agencies, and locums.

This annual assessment course which is mandatory dependant on role, relates to the comprehensive training that must be completed every five years.

A certificate is issued on completion.


Completion of an annual assessment to demonstrate competency in basic life support (BLS). In accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.


This assessment is applicable for Medical & Dental, Nursing & Midwifery Staff, Allied Health Staff and Clinical Staff (except for 234599, 234611, 311213 and 234914).
