ESTABLISHMENT OF ADVANCED TRAINING IN GENERAL MEDICINE NETWORKS IN NSW.

At the request of the NSW Ministry of Health and in alignment with the recommendations of the Medical Portfolio Programs Review: Equipping NSW Doctors for Patient Centred Care, April 2015, the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is establishing an Advanced Training in General Medicine Networks in NSW.

Establishment of a network training program

The establishment of network training will be an important part of ensuring the ongoing development of a competent Advanced General Medicine workforce for NSW.  It will provide:

  • Support for all Advanced General Medicine  trainees to have access to high quality clinical and educational opportunities in all accredited training sites;
  • Recognition of the importance of rotations between metropolitan and regional/rural hospitals for Advanced General Medicine trainees;
  • Network support for facilities to establish new accredited training positions in Advanced General Medicine.

In 2016 a Clinical Lead in Advanced Training in General Medicine, Associate Professor Aidan Foy, has been appointed and is currently engaged in site visits and consultation with stakeholders.

Planning is underway for the establishment of networks to include metropolitan, regional and rural training sites.
