Supporting Entry into University Medicine Program Scholarship
The Supporting Entry into University Medicine Program Scholarship is designed to provide financial support to prospective students from NSW rural communities who are pursuing a career in medicine.
About the scholarship
The Program aims to support students that intend to work in rural communities in the future. The Scholarship provides financial support ($1200) to cover registration for a 2023 GAMSAT/UCAT exam, assist with associated expenses such as travel to the exam and preparation for the exam (e.g., purchasing preparation materials).

Scholarship priorities
These scholarships are limited and competitive. While all eligible applications will be considered, the following applications will be given priority:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People living in a rural area. The person must be:
- Of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and
- Be recognised and accepted by the Aboriginal community in which they live or work.
- Greater priority to the higher the Modified Monash Model Scale of Rurality location: MM3 (low) – MM7 (high) (find Modified Monash Model (MMM) classifications on the Health Workforce Locator)
- Applicants sitting the GAMSAT/UCAT for the first time
- Outcome from application assessment
- Demonstrated desire to work in a NSW Health rural setting.
Who is eligible?
Applicants for the Supporting Entry into University Medicine Program Scholarship must:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and a resident of NSW.
- Have resided in a rural or remote area in NSW for a minimum of five consecutive or eight cumulative years since the age of five and whose immediate family currently resides in a rural* or remote area of NSW.
- Provide evidence of enrolment into the 2023 GAMSAT/UCAT exam.
- Demonstrate a desire to contribute to the future of health in rural and regional NSW.

Complete the online application form by midnight 28 April 2023 (UCAT) and 26 May 2023 (GAMSAT). Late applications will not be accepted.
- Upload evidence of your GAMSAT/UCAT registration.
- As part of this application, please respond to the following questions and upload your responses in one document:
- Describe what you hope to achieve by gaining entry and completing this medical training.
- Describe how this scholarship will assist you to contribute to the future of rural and regional Health in NSW.
- Outline any special considerations that the assessment panel should be aware of.
Scholarship timeframes
Separate rounds are offered for GAMSAT and UCAT. This scholarship will also be offered in the 2023/2024 financial year.
