Rural Generalist (Medical) Training Program

Pathway entry points

The Rural Medical Education Unit offers multiple entry points into a rural generalist pathway. Doctors in Training (PGY1-PGY5) are eligible for the John Flynn Prevocational Doctors Program (JFPDP). This is a great opportunity to experience the life and work of a rural generalist over a 10 week rotation.

Doctors in Training (PGY2 or beyond) that are interested in Advanced Skills Training can join the Rural Generalist Training Program (RGTP). This program offers two entry points known as Foundation Year or lateral entry. Trainees receive comprehensive and supportive training through their early career, Advanced Skills Training and transitioning to independent practice.

Fellowed GP’s can apply for the General Practitioner Procedural Training Program (GPPTP) an ideal training opportunity for GP’s seeking Advanced Skills Training or those GP’s needing a flexible pathway to refresh and upskill a pre-existing advanced skill.
